This panel will explore the role of formal clinical diagnosis in the context of access to funding or services. We will pose questions to panellists about the importance of diagnosis, particularly as it pertains to neurodiversity, and how we also consider self-identification.

Camelia Wilkinson, FAPS FCEDP, is a practicing psychologist, board-approved supervisor, and an endorsed Educational and Developmental Psychologist. She is passionate about Educational and Developmental psychology which she has been practicing, teaching, and supervising (both students and practitioners) for over two decades. That passion is represented by her roles, professional positions, and associations over her career, reflected in the various requests for contribution and input from several organisations and professional bodies. She has been holding teaching positions within the Master's programs at the University of Melbourne and ACU. She is the Chair of the College of Educational and Developmental Psychology (CEDP) and the National Committee. She was the previous Chair of the Victoria branch committee and the Chair of the successful 2021 CEDP Virtual Conference. She worked with ACER between 2020 and 2021 as a member of the External Panel of Medical Experts and has been involved in several panels and taskforces within the APS between 2022 and 2024. Camelia mentors and offers professional supervision to psychologists those going for endorsement and to professionals from various fields.
In private practice, Camelia works with diverse groups and individuals (young people, parents, teachers, and schools), across issues such as learning difficulties, developmental and neurodevelopmental disorders, and mental health concerns such as anxiety, depression, stress, and OCD. working. Her keen interest in neurodevelopmental disorders, specifically autism, is exemplified by her undertaking a PhD research at Swinburne University which began in 2021.
Camelia is a keen advocate of Psychological practice and Educational and Developmental Psychology work and is actively participating in work that helps promote the unique skills and expertise of this profession.

Kathryn is an Educational and Developmental Psychologist. Her focus has been working in paediatrics and neurodevelopmental conditions. She has significant experience working within private and public school settings in Victoria as well as hospital and community settings. She has worked in private practice in Woodend engaging in counselling and multidisciplinary assessment. A PsyBa endorsed supervisor, she is passionate about teaching and supporting her peers. She has been fortunate to engage in providing sessional lecturing with Monash University, The University of Auckland and The University of Melbourne.

Dr Chelsea Hyde, is an endorsed Educational and Developmental Psychologist and Senior Lecturer at the University of Melbourne in the Master of Educational Psychology program. Chelsea has peer-reviewed publications in the area of adolescent mental health and wellbeing with a particular interest in supporting students within school settings. She is a regular presenter at both national and international conferences in psychology and education. Chelsea has fifteen years practical experience working as a school psychologist within Independent and Catholic school systems in Victoria and Queensland across both regional and metropolitan areas.

Catherine is Counselling and Clinical Psychologist in private practice who divides her time between working with adults with complex mental health presentations and providing supervision for early to mid-career psychologists. Catherine has recently returned to part-time work as a senior lecturer in the post-graduate training of psychologists, and is also the Chair Elect for the APS College of Counselling Psychology. Her professional interests lie in working with clients with Anxiety Disorders, Bipolar Mood Disorder, PTSD, and Personality Disorders. Catherine incorporates a range of therapeutic interventions including Schema Therapy, EMDR and Psychodynamic approaches, with an overarching focus on the cultivation of the therapeutic relationship as the avenue through which change develops.

My professional journey as a psychologist began many years ago, and I have been a member of the APS for the last twenty years. I feel I bring years of not only empirical but also practical knowledge to the profession.
In my previous employment positions, I have coordinated and supervised residential programs for homeless youth, developed and implemented community education and counselling programs within substance abuse, developed and administered counselling programs for individuals suffering from depression and many other activities.
