Gill Straker has served as a clinical professor in the School of Psychology and Psychiatry at Sydney University and is a visiting research professor at the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa. She is a psychoanalytic psychotherapist and supervisor in private practice, co-director of the Centre for Applied Studies in Psychotherapy and Counselling (CASPC) and is involved in several training programmes. She is a member of the New South Wales Institute for Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy and the International Association of Relational Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy as well as the Australian Centre of Psychoanalysis ( Lacanian ) She has broad experience working in the area of post-traumatic and continuing traumatic stress. She has worked with UNHCR on programmes for refugees and survivors of torture and detention. She was involved in providing counselling services to individuals on the run from the Apartheid State and has published numerous articles in the fields of post-traumatic and continuous traumatic stress, whiteness ,peace studies and spirituality. She has published two books Faces in the Revolution co-authored with the Sanctuaries Counselling Team and the Talking Cure co-authored with Jacqui Winship. Ladislav Timulak, PhD is Professor in Counselling Psychology at Trinity College Dublin, Ireland, where he was a longstanding Course Director of the Doctorate in Counselling Psychology. Ladislav (“Laco”—read “Latso”) is involved in various psychotherapy trainings in Ireland and internationally. His main research interest is psychotherapy research, particularly the development of emotion-focused therapy (EFT). He currently is adapting this form of therapy as a transdiagnostic treatment for depression, anxiety, and related disorders. He is also researching the use of mental health interventions delivered online. At his university, he directs the Emotion-Focused Therapy Research Group and in the past co-directed the E-Mental Health Research Group. He has written or co-written ten books, more than 130 peer reviewed papers and chapters in both his native language, Slovak, and in English. His most recent books include Transforming Emotional Pain in Psychotherapy: An Emotion-Focused Approach (2015; with the second edition coming out in 2027), Transforming Generalized Anxiety: An Emotion-Focused Approach (with James McElvaney; 2018); Essentials of Descriptive-Interpretive Qualitative Research: A Generic Approach (with co-author Robert Elliott); Transdiagnostic Emotion-Focused Therapy (with co-author Daragh Keogh); Essentials of Qualitative Meta-Analysis (with Mary Creaner) and Transforming Emotional Pain: An Emotion-Focused Workbook. with several co-authors. He is the current president of the international Society for Psychotherapy Research. He has served on editorial boards of many international journals in the area of counselling psychology and psychotherapy and in the past also as a co-editor of Counselling Psychology Quarterly. Daryl Chow, MA, Ph.D. (Psych) is a practicing psychologist and trainer. He is a senior associate of the International Center for Clinical Excellence (ICCE). He devotes his time to training therapists worldwide and research on the development of expertise and highly effective psychotherapists, helping practitioners become deep learners and improve client outcomes. He is the author of several articles and books. Daryl and colleagues published the first ever study on deliberate practice in psychotherapy, a nominee for “most valuable paper” of 2015 by American Psychological Association. In 2025, his study on Improving Responses to Challenging Scenarios in Therapy appeared in APA’s Editor’s Choice, regarded as “...the best science in each area of our discipline, reflecting science that is exceptionally important, impactful, and deserves additional visibility for the whole field.”
