Presentations types and delivery methods

 

Presentation types

 

 1.    Traditional Presentation (30 minutes)

This presentation format may be most suitable for researchers wishing to share the results of two or three thematic studies or present a conceptual piece, or to practitioners wishing to share ideas with an audience in a lecture plus Q & A format. The recommended presentation length is 25 minutes, leaving 5 minutes for Q&A.  Where scheduling permits, the 30 minute session will be coupled with another 30 minute session on a similar theme.

 

2.    Brief Presentation (15 minutes)

This presentation format may be most suitable for researchers wishing to share the results of one to two studies, or for practitioners wishing to share some key insights, with time for one to two questions. The recommended presentation length is 10 minutes, leaving 5 minutes for Q&A or you can present for the full 12 minutes. 

 

3.    Symposium (3 presentations, 60 minutes total)

This format will suit groups of researchers, practitioners, or a combination of researchers and practitioners who each wish to share the results of single studies or key insights, across three presentations, where all content is centred on a theme.  Presentations should aim for 15 minutes leaving 15 minutes Q&A at the end of the symposium. The submission should identify all speakers.

 

4.    Extended Symposium (4 presentations + optional discussant, 90 minutes total)

This format will suit larger groups of researchers, practitioners, or a combination of researchers and practitioners who each wish to share the results of single studies or key insights, across four presentations, where all content is centred on a theme.  The submission should identify all speakers as well and an optional discussant.

 

5.    Panel Discussion (3-4 expert panellists, 60 minutes)

This format will suit a group of researchers and/or practitioners wishing to discuss contemporary issues in IO Psychology.  The submission should specify all members of the panel and a host, who will ask the questions and monitor time.  It is recommended that 5 minutes is allowed for opening remarks and introductions, 35 minutes for pre-prepared Q&A (1-2 questions per panel member), and 15 minutes for audience participation and 5 minutes for closing remarks and thank-yous.

 

6.    Extended Panel Discussion (3-4 expert panellists, 90 minutes)

This format will suit a group of researchers and/or practitioners wishing to discuss contemporary issues in IO Psychology.  The submission should specify all members of the panel and a host, who will ask the questions and monitor time.  It is recommended that 5 minutes is allowed for opening remarks and introductions, 55 minutes for pre-prepared Q&A (2-3 questions per panel member), and 25 minutes for audience participation and 5 minutes for closing remarks and thank-yous.

 

7.    Workshop (2 or 2.5 hrs)

A workshop is where you intend to use equipment or conduct activities that would require attendees to move around and/or be physically engaged in an activity. This may also include simulated activities such as mock consultations with actors or support personnel portraying clients.
