Abstract

There is a continuous appeal amongst the scholarly landscape for more longitudinal research to determine the impact of leadership on employee mental health outcomes over time. In response, this presentation addresses a preliminary research agenda investigating the influence of leadership on employee mental health outcomes amidst workplace disruption, by arguing that the utility of longitudinal research is to probe the stability of leadership across time-defined events. The results of longitudinal meta-analytic models, accounting for workplace disruption and time, provide novel insights about the stability of leadership effects on employee mental health outcomes, namely psychological distress, burnout, and stress. By challenging the current state of the literature, improvements for the trajectory of future longitudinal leadership research designs will be offered, advancing the scholarship pertaining to the stability of leadership influence amidst workplace disruption.

Learning outcomes

At the conclusion of this event, attendees will be able to:

1. Recognise the key trends and methodologies within the current literature pertaining to longitudinal studies investigating the influence of leadership on employee mental health outcomes.
2. Apply meta-analytical techniques to evaluate the influence of leadership through workplace disruption on employee mental health outcomes.
3. Execute robust longitudinal research approaches and practices to advance future leadership research.
