PsyBA Education Reforms: Next Steps for Organisational Psychology Advocacy
2:30 PM - 3:00 PMAbstract
The Psychology Board of Australia’s proposed redesign of higher education and training pathways, and subsequent project to review Areas of Practice Endorsement (AoPEs) could have profound implications for the future of organisational psychology in Australia. Will the next generation of organisational psychologists have a viable pathway into our profession?
The Psychology community is actively supporting timely reform while also deeply concerned about the path proposed by the Psychology Board. The proposal for a single 5 year pathway to General Registration and then a subsequent 2 year accredited post graduate program to lead to AoPE endorsement will be presented to Government stakeholders over November – December 2026. However, the implementation approach and economic viability for this very significant change seems uncertain at this stage. Notwithstanding this, project planning for an AoPE review by the PsyBA that may create further change for our speciality is currently underway.
The path forward is unclear. Will the Government accept the current proposal and move to implementation? Will they reject it and request alternate approaches to address the psychology workforce challenges? What voice will we have in the AoPE review? And in all of this, what can we in the organisational psychology community influence?
Join Tracy Martin, Angela Haydon and other members of the College committee for an important and timely conversation about what these changes could mean for our specialty, our future workforce and the sustainability of organisational psychology as a recognised area of practice. We will discuss what we can do, individually and collectively, to ensure our voices are heard and our specialty has a strong future.
This is a conversation about the future of our profession — and we need you to be part of it.
